Dear Mrs. Napholz,
I have been wanting to connect with you and family ever since I heard of Paul’s death. Paul was in my 8th grade science class at Lundahl. Maybe you would consider this a brief parent conference.
“Mrs. Napholz, I so enjoy having Paul in my class. He is ready to learn every day. He gets along with his classmates and works well with whoever I team him with. He is on the quiet side, not asking questions, but along the way he and I have had brief conversations about hockey and playing music. Part of our curriculum is about sound and how sound travels. We have done various activities in the classroom studying sound waves. Some of the students are musicians. I inquired if any would like to present in front of the class, to tell about the instrument and to demonstrate by playing a tune. Paul volunteered with his guitar and did an excellent job. I enjoy working with him.
One more thing, when Paul leaves class each day, he seems to have a few girls following along. I enjoy working with this age group, finding them still childish but obviously in an age of change. Nice meeting you Mrs. Napholz. You have a very nice young man, I am pleased to have him in class.”
Paul and a couple friends played music in our classroom on one of our half days and also at the end of the year in our library. I have fond memories. It has taken me some time to find my way to you. Now I know about the nonprofits in our area “providing options to teens and young adults to keep them from getting involved, providing harm reduction items and removing the stigma of substance abuse disorder” (Northwest Herald). Colleen and I agree and want to support the efforts of the non-profit you have founded – The Break Center. We have sent in our donation today.
Thank you,
Dave and Colleen Zeiger
